About Team Lead Pipe

In the early months of 2001, a new hobby was just starting to make some headway, and gained the attention of one Eddie Mansu. Eddie, being the great technophile that he is, had already obtained a portable GPS device, as well as a large stash of other electrical components. This brave new concept was called Geocaching, a sport in which you travel in search of hidden treasures... with the guide of the satellites above. The idea seemed very interesting and fun, but alas, the Cincinnati area hadn't really yielded much in the way of actual caches to date. Some time had passed, and summer was quickly blooming. In early June, Eddie mentioned to a few of his good friends about geocaching. They were intrigued. Jumping in Brent's car, GPS in hand, they sought the nearest cache to their home on Beechmont Avenue in Cincinnati. This just happened to be in Woodland Mound park, a place with which most of them were familiar with for it's Disc Golf course. On the fateful day in June, a handful of crazy geeks walked into the woods, leaving with a newfound desire to do so again and again.

In the coming months that lay ahead, they would venture through forests of poison ivy, trailblaze through absolute darkness in unknown woods, and climb up and down a pair of mountains with no gear and a shortage of water. We can be certain that these experiences will not dissuade our crew from using their patented 'Direct Route' method (also called the 'Lead Pipe' method) because, as it has been proven again and again, it's success is 100%. Other Geocachers have mixed feelings about the Pipesters... some hate them, others respect them, and some are even afraid of them. There are a limited class of people who even love them, as can be seen by their small following in the Team Lead Pipe Fan Club.

Probably the most frequently asked question is 'Why Lead Pipe?" Thanks to On-again, Off-again member Joe Powell, we've inherited an old battle cry from his younger days while playing the Super Nintendo game, 'Final Fight'. While in the heat of fighting, your character could pick up any of an assortment of weapons to use against the opponent. One such weapon was a Lead Pipe. It became tradition to yell out 'Lead Pipe!!' when it was in possession, and has become a staple exclamation of the group for quite some time. It only made sense to apply this cry to geocaching, as it's sort of like a battle with a victory at the end of every trek.

All members of Team Lead Pipe are graduates of one Glen Este high school, and have known each other for quite some time. There are a lot of common interest factors, but each person is uniquely different, sometimes in ways so radical that we often ask how we ever came to be in the first place. This unusual little posse has a strange outlook on things and life in general, and has a very twisted sense of humor, accompanied by an overactive imagination. Though probably shunned by some, and praised by others, Team Lead Pipe is here to stay, taking their unique brand of insanity everywhere they go. Beware, America, Team Lead Pipe is coming.
